lessons

I teach singing to teenagers and adults privately and at a local school in central Cambridge. I have extensive experience in singing and teaching classical and musical theatre styles.

School age students are expected to attend weekly lessons during term time. A typical lesson would be 30-45 minutes long and the programme would cover technique, song repertoire drawn from classical, folk music and music theatre, plus relevant music theory and musicianship (including sight singing). Many young students prepare for ABRSM or Trinity grade exams and they regularly gain Merits and Distinctions. However, I do not focus on exams unless the student is keen. Preparation for performance elements of GCSE, A-Level and Pre-U Music can be included. Students are also prepared for choral auditions to national and local youth choirs and for Oxbridge Choral scholarships. I have a current Enhanced CRB check and have been granted ISM Approved Private Teacher status.

Parents of teenagers are billed termly for lessons. A sample contract can be downloaded below.

Adults work on an individual programme, including a variety of styles of music. Lesson lengths and frequency vary according to the experience and needs of the singer. Some adults also prepare for exams or choral auditions, others aim to gain confidence and to enjoy their singing. I encourage everyone to enhance their musicianship skills alongside vocal development.
